Fair and flawless skin. Long legs. Sexy body. Chiseled cheekbones. Let’s be honest. In the Philippines, we were made to think that beauty is confined to these few physical characteristics. What we don’t realize is that, in other parts of the world, there are people who will pay just to have our skin color. Somewhere in this world, there are people who dream of having our petite frames.

Looking at a woman’s physical beauty is like appreciating art. To truly find beauty in the artwork, we should have a mind that lets go of the restrictions and personal biases. Only then can we appreciate the unique beauty each person has.

Until now, I find it hard to let go of my limited concept of physical beauty. Sometimes, not being tall enough or fair enough still robs my confidence, but being a mom to my beautiful daughter challenges me to overcome this shallow mentality.

A confident and secure mother is a requirement to raise a positive and courageous child.
