For our annual family (Llana side) getaway, we chose a destination that’s closer to nature—Montemar Beach Club in Bataan. We were looking for a quiet escape, some time by the sea, and activities the whole family could enjoy. What we didn’t expect was the chance to take part in a simple but meaningful experience: releasing baby turtles into the sea.
Releasing Baby Turtles
Located in Bagac, Montemar Resort is a marine-protected area and an accredited Pawikan Conservation Center. It actively supports the Pawikan Conservation, in partnership with the Protected Areas and Wildlife Bureau. The goal is to help conserve the country’s marine turtle population, especially during their vulnerable nesting and hatching stages.
As part of our stay, we joined other guests in the releasing of newly-hatched pawikan (marine turtles) into the sea. It was a unique summer activity for the kids, which the adults surely enjoyed as well.

Fun Family Bonding
Aside from that, Montemar turned out to be a great place for a relaxed family vacation. The rooms are spacious and clean, even if the resort is a bit old.

What I appreciated most about our room was the veranda overlooking the garden. While the kids and their dad were still asleep, I had it all to myself—a rare pocket of quiet. It became my little retreat where I meditated, connected to God, and reconnected with myself. As a mom, moments like this—uninterrupted and unhurried—don’t come often, so I soaked it all in.

Rustic Beauty + Nature
Unlike modern resorts, Montemar has a rustic charm that blends naturally with its lush surroundings—towering trees, wide green spaces, and quiet walking paths. There were plenty of spots where you could stroll under a canopy of trees and just enjoy the calm. The kids had more than enough safe space to run, play, and explore freely.

If there’s one thing that could be improved, it’s the upkeep of some of the green spaces. A bit of regular maintenance would go a long way in making the place look more polished.

We had a refreshing time at the swimming pool. There was no kiddie pool though.

What really stood out, though, was the beach just a short walk away. The soft sand and gentle waves were exactly what we were hoping for, and the refreshing sea breeze provided the perfect touch to cool off.

If you’re looking for a family-friendly beach resort where you can slow down and enjoy nature—while supporting a good cause—Montemar Beach Resort is worth considering.
