As a first-time mom, I wasn’t aware of the need to “childproof” our home. I didn’t even know that such word exists. 😊 I never thought of it until my sweet little baby Tash turned into a toddler who likes to walk and run around the house, grab every little item on her way, and touch almost anything that catches her attention.
What I saw from a TV commercial a long time ago was now happening to me. That scene of a toddler grabbing a dirty item and putting it inside her mouth as the mommy yells “Noooooo”! It’s a pretty common scene in our household nowadays. 😊
How can they grow up that fast? From a tiny innocent being to an energetic domineering toddler, my little girl has grown so fast. I’m not sure where her raging curiosity to explore the insides of that AC power socket is coming from.
That’s how I realized the need to “childproof” our home.
To put it simply, childproofing your home refers to those little things you do to make your home-sweet-home a home-safe-home for your toddler. I honestly have Hubby to thank for initiating this. I guess men are, by nature, more proactive when it comes to safety. Haha! Though we haven’t 100% childproofed our home yet, it’s good to start some efforts that will help keep our child safe at home.
To my relief, childproofing our house need not be expensive. There are a lot of childproofing products available nowadays, and they come at a price any parent would be willing to pay in exchange of the child’s safety.
Child Safety Outlet Plugs
The electrical outlet cover was the first child safety product my hubby and I had in mind. Our one-year-old already imitates whatever Mommy and Daddy are doing. Because she sees me all the time plugging the power cord of her sterilizer, it’s not surprising she now tries to put the electric cord into the socket. That’s why it’s crucial to monitor her every move. As a precaution, hubby and I used Dreambaby outlet covers so our little girl won’t be able to touch the “danger zone”. These childproofing products help avoid harmful electric shocks by preventing children from placing objects into electrical outlets.
Door Knob Cover
Our toddler now loves to play with doors in the house. She likes to open and close the door and tries to reach the door knob. With this harmless curiosity comes the serious risk of our little toddler being accidentally locked inside the room. This Dreambaby Door Knob Cover exists to prevent that awful scenario.
Child Safety Multi-purpose Latches and Sliding Locks
Our one-year-old now loves to get everything she sees inside the cabinet, cupboard and even the refrigerator. To prevent her from opening the cabinet and getting stuff inside it, we use Dreambaby multi-purpose latches. For cabinet knobs and D-shaped handles, the sliding lock is a better choice.
Another furniture that our child loves to explore at home is the drawer. To prevent her little fingers from getting caught by Mr. Drawer, we installed the Dreambaby drawer stopper. This childproofing product prevents children from completely pulling out a drawer.
Dreambaby home safety essentials are easy to find as they are readily available at True Value Hardware Philippines, Ace Hardware Philippines, ALL HOME and Wilcon Depot stores.
Parents will surely do everything to ensure the safety of their child. Investing in childproofing products is part of keeping our home not just clean and cozy but also safe for our little ones.
