While officemates were taking a nap or chatting with each other over lunch, I was expressing milk under the office desk or in between big storage boxes. Unfortunately, my former company didn’t have a lactation room at that time. I was always in a hurry because I feared that there would be no space for my little bottles of expressed milk inside the office refrigerator. At the end of the day, I had to travel back home with a breast pump and bag filled with icepacks and my breastmilk stash. My only consolation? A baby girl waiting for me all day so she could latch on Mommy’s breast again. ❤️❤️
Breastfeeding working moms have their unique share of sacrifices. Breastfeeding is uncomfy, sometimes painful, time-consuming, and exhausting. Add to that the deadlines we have to meet, the mental pressure of having to come up with ideas while thinking of our babies at home, the stress of dealing with bosses, clients and colleagues, the traffic we have to endure before reaching home, the finances we need to manage, the chores waiting for us before we can finally rest at night.
Looking back, I have no regrets. I now see the fruit of breastfeeding — my healthy, energetic and happy daughter who now calls me her “bestfriend”. 😍
Despite breastfeeding and expressing milk in uncomfortable spaces, I thank God that I was able to breastfeed for more than a year. Thanks to the encouragement and support of my husband @bankerong_daddy and other mom friends who kept on reminding me about the benefits of breastfeeding.
The support of the loving people in a mom’s life is very important for moms to be #ComfortableAnywhere when breastfeeding. So this August, as we celebrate Breastfeeding Awareness Month, let us support all the breastfeeding moms in our life through little acts of kindness. Offer a seat when she’s about to breastfeed. Don’t make her feel awkward when she needs to step out of a meeting just to express milk. Hold her hands when she’s in pain. Tell her she’s doing a great job for her child.
It is every mom’s right to be #ComfortableAnywhere with #PhilipsPH. If you’re a breastfeeding mom, share your experience and post a photo with your support network who make you feel #ComfortableAnywhere while breastfeeding.
