This weekend’s theme? Street food trip with a generous serving of nature, peace, and quiet. 😎
Whenever we’re craving fish balls, kwek-kwek, sweet corn, cheese sticks, or dirty ice cream (but also want the girls to run around somewhere safe and green), our family almost always ends up at UP Diliman in Quezon City.
Over the years, it’s become one of our favorite spots for a slow weekend. There’s no pressure to follow an itinerary or spend a lot of money. We simply walk, eat, play, and enjoy being together. In a city where weekends often mean crowded malls and endless errands, UP Diliman gives us something different: space to breathe, reconnect, and let the kids just be kids.

If you’re looking for UP Diliman family activities or wondering about things to do in UP Diliman with kids, here are some of the reasons we keep coming back.
Why We Love Bringing Our Kids to UP Diliman
One of the biggest gifts we can give our children is time outdoors. At UP Diliman, they can run freely, ride their bikes or scooters, play on the grass, or simply explore nature at their own pace. The fresh air and open spaces encourage movement, creativity, and curiosity—things that are becoming increasingly rare in today’s digital world.

It’s also one of those places where the whole family naturally slows down. Instead of rushing from one activity to another, we find ourselves lingering under the shade of trees, chatting while we snack, and appreciating the simple joys of being together.
The best part? It’s free! 😎
Our Favorite Family Activities in UP Diliman
Every visit looks a little different, but these are the activities we always enjoy.
Walk or Jog
Whether you’re an early riser or prefer an afternoon stroll, the acacia-lined Academic Oval of UP is one of the best places in Metro Manila to walk, jog, or simply enjoy the fresh air together as a family.

Let the Kids Play Freely
Pack bikes, scooters, bubbles, or a ball and let your children enjoy the wide open spaces. Sometimes the best entertainment is simply giving kids room to run.

Journal or Read on the Grass
Bring a picnic mat and spend a quiet hour journaling, sketching, reading, or simply watching the trees sway overhead. It’s a refreshing change from spending the day indoors.

Let Kids Explore Through Digital Photography
One activity our kids enjoy is taking photos of flowers, trees, birds, interesting architecture, or funny family moments. It encourages them to observe the world around them and discover beauty in ordinary things.
Go on a Street Food Adventure
No visit is complete without a food trip. Some of our favorites include:
- Hotdogs
- Kwek-kwek
- Cheese sticks
- Sweet corn
- Dirty ice cream
- Taho

Simple food somehow tastes even better after spending time outdoors.
Shop, Chill, Dine at the Shopping Center
After exploring the campus, we sometimes head to the UP Shopping Center (near Parish of the Holy Sacrifice) for coffee, dessert, a little grocery shopping, or simply to cool down before heading home.
Attend Mass at the Parish of the Holy Sacrifice
Our family attends the Holy Mass or spend a few quiet moments in prayer at the Parish of the Holy Sacrifice. Surrounded by beautiful architecture and peaceful grounds, it’s the perfect reminder to pause and give thanks before another busy week begins.

The Simplest Weekends Are Valued Just As Much as Grand Trips
One thing I love about raising a family is realizing that our children don’t really care about how grand an experience is. While they surely enjoyed our Boracay getaway or Korea trip, they also get so excited over our simple family bonding at UP Diliman, sharing dirty ice cream under the trees, racing around the Academic Oval, laughing over cheese sticks, or sitting on the grass while clouds drift by.
That’s exactly why we keep coming back to UP Diliman. It’s affordable, family-friendly, and filled with opportunities to move, explore, pray, eat, and simply enjoy each other’s company.

If you’re searching for family-friendly places in Metro Manila, I highly recommend spending a slow weekend at UP Diliman. You might just discover that the best family adventures are also the simplest ones.
