How to give your mommy wardrobe a make-over

After becoming pregnant and giving birth, a shocking reality confronted me — my clothes as a petite young lady no longer fit my brand-new “mommy-of-1” self!  I’m sure some moms can relate with me that it’s not easy to accept this drastic change in physical appearance and figure.  Though we try to joke about it during girl talks, it’s actually a tough personal struggle we try to deal with as a mother, alongside many mommy duties and challenges.

While I’m still determined to get my 110 lbs pre-pregnancy weight back (2018, yes, we can!), I somehow developed a more optimistic way of viewing my “mom bod”.  Why be ashamed of the increased weight (plus the scars and stretchmarks) when it reminds me of God’s grace that made me brave a 9-month-long pregnancy, a few hours of labor and an emergency C-section?  Why cry over old small clothes that no longer fit when I now have a valid excuse to give my boring old wardrobe a make-over? 😊

Are your hips, boobies, tummy, thighs and everything bigger now that you’re a mom?  Are your choice of clothes limited because of the need for an “easy access” for breastfeeding?  If like me, your answer is a big irrevocable YES, then we both deserve a few new pieces of stylish mommy wear!

A few years back, as a single lady, I used to think that mom clothes are old fashioned and boring.  I pictured lifeless A-line skirts, big padded blouses and floral pambahay “daster”.  “Ooohh, I don’t wanna be a mom!”  But now that I’m a mom, I realized my life and my clothes need not be boring just because I’m a mom.

Having a pile of things to do, whether in corporate jobs or at home or in the business, doesn’t give us an excuse to neglect our physical appearance.   It’s not that we’re being flashy or materialistic.  But dressing ourselves up appropriately and stylishly is a way of caring for ourselves.  Before we can care for our little ones and the other people in our lives, we owe ourselves the tender, loving care we also deserve.  Plus, dressing up well can make us more confident with our mom roles, and yes, even with our newfound mom bod. 😊   And when we’re confident in our own clothes, skin, weight and all, the hubby and the kiddoes will surely be happy.

With the many benefits of power dressing for moms, finding a set of stylish and functional mommy wear should be on our to-do list.  Since we want to be practical even when it comes to our own wardrobe, we have to find mommy outfits that are not just fashionable but also useful for our motherly roles like breastfeeding.   This was the goal of one young mother that led her to start a maternity/nursing/mommy wear shop of her own.  Her yearning for good quality mommy clothes ended up in a successful business venture now known as Ellie & Me Mommywear.

I’m so grateful I was able to personally meet the lovely mom behind Ellie & Me, vivacious momma Viva. This spirited millennial mom foresaw that other moms like her would also want and need a set of comfortable, fashionable, practical and breastfeeding-friendly  mommy attire.

The Versatile Blouse

I like this blouse because it’s discreetly breastfeeding-friendly. Plus, its design is versatile enough to be worn either in the office or outside. Pair it with jeans and it can be worn during my coffee dates with girlfriends. Pair it with slacks and I can wear it in the office or in a workshop.

Comfy Outfit for the Weekender

This mommy outfit looks so refreshing to me. Maybe that’s because I am a fan of carefree white tops! It’s so laidback yet still stylish. It can be the perfect outfit for the next family weekend getaway.
