My husband and I rarely have the time to go on a date. We’ve somehow embraced the fact that we’re in the middle of the “Parents with Little Children” era. Nowadays, our “couple moments” are usually just remnants of a day dedicated to a long list of errands. I’m sure many fellow young parents can relate.
But despite the busyness, we try our best to prioritize our relationship. That means carving out those precious couple-only moments—no matter how few and far between. Thanks to our ever-reliable village (shoutout to the grandparents and titos/titas!), we recently had the chance to go on our first major date night for the year. Congratulations, Mr & Mrs S!
SPIT Manila Literary Improve Show
The plan? Catch Funnytikan, a literary improv show by SPIT Manila (Silly People’s Improv Theater), Asia’s premier improv group. Big thanks to my sister-in-law for the recommendation! I had seen their hilarious clips online before, but this was our first time watching them live—and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.

The venue alone set the mood for the night. Held at the iconic Metropolitan Theater, the show offered a charming mix of old-world elegance and cozy vibes. As soon as we stepped inside, we knew we were in for a special evening.

And the show? Pure joy. We laughed—a lot. SPIT Manila’s brand of humor is smart, quick-witted, and refreshingly spontaneous. Their performances are completely unscripted and unrehearsed, which made the experience feel even more authentic and delightful.

What made it even more fun was the audience participation. Yup, we weren’t just passive spectators—we were part of the show! The performers would ask for prompts, and the energy from the crowd made the night even more interactive and unforgettable.
Sure, the ticket price (P1500 each for our side of the theater) was a bit more than our usual movie date nights, but the entertainment value and shared experience were absolutely worth it. It felt like a mental reset—lighthearted, energizing, and perfect for reconnecting as a couple.

So if you and your spouse are looking for a unique, laughter-filled date night idea, I highly recommend catching a SPIT Manila show. It’s a refreshing change from the usual and a great way to bond over something spontaneous and fun.

Here’s to more memorable date nights—even in the midst of parenting chaos!
